Legacy Gifts
WHAT IS A “PLANNED GIFT”?
We all want to make a difference, to leave a mark, to make the world a better place.
Since 1963, thousands of generous supporters have changed children’s lives for the better through the Eastview Boys and Girls Club. Our children and youth will make friends, learn skills and receive guidance to grow into good citizens.
Planned Giving is simply another way of contributing to a registered charitable organization. Depending upon your situation, charitable gifts can be made from a gift of existing assets or income, or may be created through your estate.
BENEFITS OF GIVING
The Boys and Girls Club can help you plan ahead to reduce your tax burden while at the same time make a gift that will keep on growing. Some of the benefits of a Planned Gift:
· Contribute to a cause that you believe in during your lifetime.
· Have the satisfaction of seeing your gift in action.
· Create a lasting gift beyond your lifetime.
· Maximize your charitable tax credit and reduce your tax burden.
· Completed gifts are acknowledged each year in our annual report, subject to your wishes for anonymity or privacy.
HOW WILL MY GIFT BE USED?
You may want to designate your gift for a specific purpose, or, your gift may be used for general purposes at the discretion of the Club. The decision is yours. We would be pleased to meet with you to discuss your intentions and interests to ensure that your wishes will be met.
HOW DO I CREATE A GIFT THROUGH MY WILL?
It is very simple to make a deferred gift to The Eastview Boys and Girls Clubthrough a legacy in your will. If you already have a will or are planning on writing a new one, you may add one of the following sentences as part of the will or as a codicil:
a) I give to the Eastview Boys and Girls Club the sum of $____ to be used for its
general purposes.
b) I give to the Eastview Boys and Girls Club___ % of the residue of my estate
to be used for its general purposes.
c) I give to the Eastview Boys and Girls Club the rest, residue and remainder of
my estate to be used for its general purposes.
I’VE DECIDED TO MAKE A GIFT. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
There are a number of considerations to take in to account when making a Planned Gift. Talk to your financial advisor; consult with your lawyer and your family. We will work with you and your legal advisors to ensure your gift plan is suitable to your situation.
ARE THERE OTHER WAYS TO GIVE?
Gifts or bequests made by will are by far the most common form or Planned Giving made by individuals in Canada. However, there are a number of other options available to you. You may also make a gift: of an existing or new life insurance policy, of accumulated assets via a gift of marketable public securities, by establishing charitable remainder trust, via a charitable gift annuity. Consult your lawyer or financial advisor for more information on types of gifts.
