Enhanced Extrajudicial Sanctions Coordinator

Enhanced Extrajudicial Sanctions (EESJ) Coordinator
Full-Time (Permanent) 
$22.95/hour

Reports to: Youth Justice Services Director

Main Function

The EEJS Coordinator is part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Boys and Girls Club of Durham, which provides services to youth ages 12-18. The position of the Enhanced Extrajudicial Sanctions Coordinator which involves meeting with young persons between 12 and 18 years of age alleged to have committed an offence(s), and providing community-based, post-charge sanctions and outreach support. This role also includes support of the Youth Justice Committee and its volunteers.

Responsibilities

Youth Justice Committee

  • Recruit, screen and interview potential volunteer facilitators for the Youth Justice Committee
  • Complete documentation and reports in accordance with Ministry requirements and standards
  • Organize, plan and deliver continuing education opportunities for volunteer facilitators
  • Develop and implement volunteer facilitator schedules
  • Maintain ongoing communication with volunteer facilitators

Extrajudicial Sanctions Coordinator

  • Meet with young persons between the ages of 12 and 18 and determine appropriate sanctions
  • Encourage young persons to make reparations for their offence(s)
  • Record and maintain a database and statistical reports in accordance with Ministry requirements and standards
  • Provide ongoing support to clients
  • Maintain updated and accurate case notes and statistical data
  • Participate in the planning and facilitation of the youth programs
  • Develop and facilitate programs to achieve program goals

Trusted Youth Program

  • Meet with the Client and the Ontario Works Caseworker (herein called Caseworker), at a mutually agreed upon time and mutually convenient safe space
  • Meet at least every three months to review the financial eligibility of the Client and to sign any required documentation; and at any subsequent meeting where Caseworker deems financial eligibility may be at risk.
  • Provide space at designated cheque pick up locations and arrange dates for Caseworker and Trustee to be available to meet together with Client to address any issues, update Client information and promote wrap around service delivery model
  • Exchange and consistently update information with the Caseworker regarding any circumstances of the Client that may affect eligibility for financial assistance – including address, phone number, if funds are not picked up or received by Client and Client’s declared preferred method of contact
  • Notify Client if Caseworker advises that Client’s funds are on hold and ensure Client understands what is required and how to proceed to reinstate benefits
  • Ensure Client has access to other services in the community and/or as provided by the agency as needed
  • Administer the financial assistance of the Client to ensure that their ongoing maintenance needs are met
  • Proactively assist with money management
  • Execute and deliver to the Region, “Appointment of Trustee” form for each Client for whom you will trustee 
  • File an annual report with the Commissioner accounting for all receipt and disbursements of financial assistance received on behalf of the Client
  • Maintain the physical security of all data, information, reports, materials or other documents relating to your role as trustee and notify the Youth Justice Service Director immediately in the event of a breach

Outreach Worker

  • Engage at-risk youth in accordance with the Stages of Change intervention model
  • Support youth to connect with programs, services and opportunities for healthy development by:  (i) Helping youth to identify their needs, goals, aspirations, skills and abilities as well as barriers to accessing services; (ii) Providing youth with general information, contacts, referrals and support as needed to build assets and address needs (e.g., housing, employment, education, health care and recreation; social and emotional issues)
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with other professionals within and outside of the organization
  • Work with youth, schools, police and youth service providers to advocate for and improve access to programs, services and opportunities for youth
  • Build partnerships with community agencies, businesses and informal community groups to offer programs that engage youth to develop their knowledge, skills and interests (e.g. arts and culture, volunteering, civic engagement, recreation, life skills)
  • Identify emerging issues, service gaps and opportunities for action to build community capacity
  • Identify staff development/training needs and participate in staff development/training programs as required
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions and accept any other assigned responsibilities and duties for the department or Club as assigned by the Youth Justice Services Director
  • Submit all statistical data to your supervisor on a monthly basis
  • Be fiscally responsible. Do not exceed budget guideline for travel. 
  • Practice all health and safety rules in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

General Responsibilities

  • Assist with general housekeeping duties of the Club in order to maintain a clean, welcoming environment
  • Assume responsibility for awareness of health and safety issues and bring concerns to the attention of the Health and Safety Committee as appropriate

Working Conditions

  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 
  • Hours will include occasional evenings and weekends
  • The position includes regular travel throughout Durham Region

Employment Requirements

  • Diploma or degree from a recognized University or College in a Social Service Field or equivalent 
  • Familiar with key principles of the Youth Criminal Justice Act
  • Excellent administrative skills are essential
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Familiar with Extrajudicial Sanctions and Extrajudicial Measures
  • Experience working with youth 12-18 years of age
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer skills and organization
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license with own vehicle 
  • Provide a current Police Records Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search

Program Activity Leader

After School Program Activity Leader

Reports to: After-School Program Assistant, Coordinator, and Program Director

Main Function

Provide leadership and supervision to children in the After-School Program. Implement lesson plans, ensure children participate in all activities, while ensuring the safety and well being of all participants.

Duties

  • Provide supervision and leadership to program participants.
  • Will provide a safe, structured environment for the participants.
  • Will ensure that the participants’ needs are met and that they are enjoying the program.
  • Will assure that the Members’ Rules of Conduct are carried out in the program.
  • Will act as a role model for the participants conducting oneself in a respectful, cordial, mature and responsible manner.
  • Will adhere to the Principles for Healthy Child Development
  • Will take the time to research and to plan assigned program activities, making activities innovative, motivating and interesting to our Members.
  • Maintain acceptable appearance in uniform and personal hygiene at all times.
  • Will work with and provide directions to the volunteers and students.
  • Will attend the staff meetings, trainings, and planning sessions as required.
  • Responsible for helping to clean the program areas and other maintenance duties as needed.
  • Will act as a representative of the Boys and Girls Club of Durham and help promote the Club by example and being of service to parents, volunteers, and other clients as the need arises.
  • Will maintain regular, positive and consistent feedback to parents when they are signing out their child/children.
  • Will complete written documentation as required and submit to supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Will follow and practice all health and safety rules in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Public Health Act.
  • Ensure that supplies and equipment are adequate, safe and in good repair.                                                      

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Monday to Friday - flexible hours are required, dictated by programming needs, hours typically fall between 2pm and 6pm
  • Required to work in a variety of settings including outdoors and in the pool.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS 

  • Experience in programs for youth 5-18 years of age and a knowledge of child development.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Familiar with the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development.
  • Knowledge of fitness and nutrition.
  • First Aid and C.P.R. certifications.
  • Punctual, meticulous, reliable.
